BALLEX products can be manufactured in different chemical compositions according to customer requirements, in standard diameters ranging from 16 mm to 125 mm.
Raw materials entering production are evaluated and accepted under rigorous and comprehensive incoming-inspection procedures. Steel bars heated in induction and/or natural-gas reheating furnaces are prepared for rolling with homogeneous, fully controlled heat distribution. Heat treatment is applied with every stage precisely managed by the temperature-control automation system. In the continuous heat-treatment process, each ball is subjected to the same thermal parameters, ensuring homogeneous and standard hardness distribution.

Volumetric Hardness Analysis
A section is cut from the centre of the balls by wire electrical-discharge machining and a volumetric hardness analysis is performed.

Special Sizes
Ballex steel balls are produced across a wide diameter range from 16 mm to 140 mm and also maintain minimum dimensional tolerances.

Hardness Control
Before shipment, the surface, centre and volumetric hardness of our steel balls are checked with Rockwell hardness-testing equipment.

- Silicon: 0.10–0.40%
- Chromium: max. 1.50%

- Manganese: 0.60–1.90%

- Sulphur: max. 0.04%
- Phosphorus: max. 0.04%

General Ballex Warranty Coverage
Evaluation applies during the first 1,000 operating hours, provided that the mill is not run empty for more than 10 minutes.
Breakage Evaluation
- 0–3%: No compensation applies.
- 3–10%: The equivalent amount of broken grinding media is replaced at no charge.
- Above 10%: Operating conditions are reviewed through an authorised inspection; replacement is agreed jointly.
